Family And Group Counseling Program

Recent research indicates that family attachment, supervision, and family norms protect youth from risk situations. Because family environment influences every aspect of a child's life, improving parent-child relations is a major goal of Rape Trauma Service's prevention and intervention programs.

Rape Trauma Services' Parents Group
RTS is currently working with a group of parents (whose children are receiving counseling from RTS) to:

  1. Enhance the family environment by improving communication, clarifying
rules, decreasing family conflicts, and decreasing family violence.
  2. Alleviate stresses that diminish parents' capacity to nurture their children
in order to enhance a healthy development.
  3. Establish a secure family base in which parents can explore new
    solutions to problems.
  4. Provide a clear understanding of the natural and healthy sexual behaviors
    during childhood and early adolescence.
  5. Help parents understand children's sexual exploration and curiosity.
  6. Identify characteristics of problematic sexual behaviors during childhood.
  7. Help parents support their children's healing journey.
