Family And Group Counseling Program
Recent research indicates that family attachment, supervision, and family norms protect youth from risk situations. Because family environment influences every aspect of a child's life, improving parent-child relations is a major goal of Rape Trauma Service's prevention and intervention programs.
Rape Trauma Services' Parents Group
RTS is currently working with a group of parents (whose children are receiving counseling from RTS) to:
- Enhance the family environment by improving communication, clarifying
rules, decreasing family conflicts, and decreasing family violence.
- Alleviate stresses that diminish parents' capacity to nurture their children
in order to enhance a healthy development.
- Establish a secure family base in which parents can explore new
solutions to problems.
- Provide a clear understanding of the natural and healthy sexual behaviors
during childhood and early adolescence.
- Help parents understand children's sexual exploration and curiosity.
- Identify characteristics of problematic sexual behaviors during childhood.
- Help parents support their children's healing journey.
