Your Rights As A Survivor

You have the right to:

  • Be treated with respect, dignity, and courtesy.
  • File a complaint and receive services regardless of your relationship with
    the assailant.
  • Not be subjected to prejudice because of your race, age, gender, class,
    sexual orientation, or occupation.
  • Talk about what happened to you, and the right not to talk about it.
  • The form of communication which is most comfortable to you.
  • Have a sexual assault counselor with you during medical, law
    enforcement, and legal proceedings.
  • Know the purpose of any form you are asked to sign.
  • Ask questions and receive answers about any tests, exams,
    medications, or treatment.
  • Be informed of any necessary follow-up care and testing.
  • Voice complaints and expect to have them heard and explored.
