Counseling

RTS aims to help survivors learn the skills they need to heal from sexual trauma and develop the tools to be supportive of their own healing and the healing of others.  Our sexual assault counselors are trained in dealing with all aspects of sexual abuse, its impact and the healing process. Counselors support survivors and their partners, friends, and family members by listening and helping to clarify issues, identify options, and access resources. Finding a safe and supportive place to share feelings about traumatic events can be important for healing.

Individual Counseling – In one-on-one counseling, survivors share their feelings and thoughts with a counselor who is trained to create a safe and supportive environment. Survivors can openly address emotions and concerns pertaining to the sexual abuse they have experienced without being judged or blamed.

Family Counseling – Sexual abuse affects the survivor’s family system as a whole. Support for the healing processes of the entire family is provided when appropriate.

Group Counseling – Support groups give survivors the opportunity to continue the healing process with others who have had similar experiences. Support groups can help break through the isolation so common among victims.
